Aberdeen is a very international city with a large influx and outflow of oil industry professionals. This means that good properties in desirable locations, rent very quickly. The city has the highest rental rates in the UK, next to London, according to The Economist. For this reason, I want to jump on anything that looks 80% promising. I was advised that it is not recommended to rent something sight unseen as houses can be a bit "odd" to folks used to American homes, but in a tight market like this I have an appetite for calculated rental risk! Also, I appreciate the chance to map out all of my furniture on a floor plan before shipping things I don't need overseas, or buying more to fit perfectly! - don't tell my husband :)
I think I have found the perfect house and here's why:Link to property
- Charming period home made of granite - CHECK!
- Completely redone inside with a gorgeous kitchen in black and white
- Rooms are painted white with wood floors, no weird colors or materials - definitely a plus to incorporate our stuff
- Only 0.5 miles from my bus stop for work - Excellent! I can ride the bus daily and decrease the likelihood of killing myself while trying to drive on the opposite side of the road
- The village of Peterculter, where the home is located, is the "Gateway to Royal Deeside." This beautiful countryside is home to Her Majesty, the Queen, in August and September at Balmoral Castle, which is ~ 30 miles away!! #TeawiththeQueen
A nice lady from Relocation Scotland is going to view the property tomorrow and report if there is anything "untoward" about it. Yes, my vocabulary is expanding too - "untoward" means odd in American :) She agreed it was beautiful and was afraid it would definitely be snatched up before we arrived. Crossing my fingers this house works out!!
